Whenever we are in great pain…

Whenever we are in great pain, we should not forget the great honour that the Lord is doing us in letting us share in His crown of thorns.

- Mother Gabriel

In time of temptation

When you pray to God in time of temptation do not say, ‘Take this or that away from me’, but pray like this: ‘O Jesus Christ, sovereign Master, help me and do not let me sin against Thee…’

- Abba Isaiah the Solitary

Where there is God…

Where there is God, there is no evil. Everything coming from God is peaceful, healthy and leads a person to the judgment of his own imperfections and humility.

- St. Seraphim of Sarov

A message from Anonymous
I am VERY odffended by the anonymous message from this Catholic guy. My family (grandparents) were forced to convert to Uniatism like 70 years ago. My compatriots were murdered... The only reason that there are Eastern Catholics in my country are these forced convertions during the 40's. I am extremely offended by this anon that don't respect our feelings. I am a proud Serbian Orthodox and I will always love my religion and my country.

My dear Serbian Orthodox brother/sister,

I totally understand your pain and your anger. And thank you for sharing these personal information about you and your family. All Orthodox Christians are offended by this message, it is very reasonable. But, thank God, not all Catholics are like that. There are many that really respect and love us as brothers and sisters in Christ. Pious Catholic believers that are trying to live according to their churches teachings are not responsible for these crimes against Orthodox people, but some specific persons.

I send you many greetings and love from beautiful Greece.

St. John of the Ladder on Anger

Pink Flower close up / macro

So let the tyrant anger be bound with the chains of meekness, and be beaten by patience, and dragged out by holy love; and, being arraigned before this court of reason, let it be duly examined: ‘Tell us, base idiot, what is the name of the father who begot you and the mother who brought you for evil into the world, and the names of your foul sons and daughters. And not only that, but tell us the designations of those who wage war against you and kill you.’ And anger might be thought to reply: ‘Many are my origins, and I have more than one father. My mothers are vainglory, love of money, greed, and sometimes lust. My father is called conceit. My daughters are: remembrance of wrongs, enmity, self-justification, and hatred. But my opponents, who are now holding me captive, are the opposite virtues of freedom from anger, and meekness. She who schemes against me is called humility. But as to who bore humility, ask her in due time herself.’

From The Ladder of Divine Ascent

Orthodox Angel

Demons often transform themselves into angels of light and take the form of martyrs, and make it appear to us during sleep that we are in communication with them. Then, when we wake up, they plunge us into unholy joy and conceit. But you can detect their deceit by this very fact. For angels reveal torments, judgments and separations; and when we wake up we find that we are trembling and sad. As soon as we begin to believe the demons in dreams, then they make sport of us when we are awake too. He who believes in dreams is completely inexperienced. But he who distrusts all dreams is a wise man. Only believe dreams that warn you of torments and judgments. But if despair afflicts you, then such dreams area also from demons.

Prayers in Time of Need

Sunny Drops Pictures, Images and Photos

Almighty God, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, come to my help and deliver me from this difficulty that besets me. I believe Lord, that all trials of life are under Your care and that all things work for the good of those who love You. Take away from me fear, anxiety and distress. Help me to face and endure my difficulty with faith, courage and wisdom. Grant that this trial may bring me closer to You for You are my rock and refuge, my comfort and hope, my delight and joy. I trust in Your love and compassion. Blessed is Your name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

O God, our help in time of need, Who are just and merciful, and Who inclines to the supplications of His people. Look down upon me and have mercy on me and deliver me from the trouble that now besets me. Deal with us not according to our iniquities, but according to Your manifold mercies, for we are the works of Your hands, and You know our weaknesses. I pray to you to grant me Your divine helping grace, and endow me with patience and strength to endure my hardships with complete submission to Your Will. Only You know our misery and sufferings, and to You, our only hope and refuge, I flee for relief and comfort, trusting in Your infinite love and compassion, that in due time, when You know best, You will deliver me from this trouble, and turn my distress into comfort. We then shall rejoice in Your mercy, and exalt and praise Your Holy Name, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen
